CultureOwl vs. Tessitura
Tessitura is an enterprise system built for large cultural institutions that need ticketing, fundraising and patron CRM in one database. CultureOwl is not that, and does not try to be. It starts with event discovery — putting your events in front of people already looking for something cultural to do — with ticketing built in.

These Two Systems Do Different Jobs
Tessitura exists to manage the relationships an institution already has. A patron who bought a subscription in 2019, gave to the annual fund in 2022 and brought two guests last season is one record, and every department can see it. For a major opera house or symphony, that record is the business.
CultureOwl exists to create relationships that do not exist yet. Someone browsing for something to do this weekend finds your performance, follows your organization and buys a ticket — none of which required them to be in anyone’s database first.
If your problem is managing a known audience, Tessitura is the better system and this page will not argue otherwise. If your problem is that not enough people know you exist, a CRM does not solve it.

When Tessitura Is the Right Answer
Organizations running multi-production seasons with subscription renewals, a development team working campaigns and appeals, and a board that expects consolidated patron reporting are describing Tessitura. CultureOwl does not replace that, and an organization at that scale should not shortlist us for it.
Where CultureOwl fits alongside is discovery. Several institutions run an enterprise system of record and use CultureOwl to reach the audience that system cannot see — people who have never bought a ticket and are not on any list.
That is a genuine both-and, not a polite way of conceding the sale.
Donations and support
Donations
CultureOwl collects donations at checkout and alongside ticket sales, and pays them out with your ticket revenue. It is deliberately simple. Tessitura organizations that need campaign management, appeals, pledges or grant tracking should expect to keep a separate fundraising system — CultureOwl does not replace one.
Support
CultureOwl support covers setup, event publishing, ticketing and promotion, with no implementation project to complete first. Larger platforms often assign an account or implementation contact as part of a contract; ours is included and does not depend on the size of your organization.
What Each Platform Costs
CultureOwl publishes a flat 99¢ platform fee per paid ticket plus standard credit card processing. Free events carry no ticketing fee. There is no annual contract and no implementation cost.
Tessitura does not publish a rate. It operates as a nonprofit consortium: organizations license the system, pay implementation and ongoing costs negotiated individually, and typically commit for multiple years. Cost scales with organization size and the modules deployed.
A like-for-like per-ticket comparison is not possible, and this page will not invent one. What can be said plainly: CultureOwl costs are published and usage-based, and Tessitura costs are negotiated and contractual.
