AMBIANCE
We’d heard a lot about Smokey Bones, but weren’t quite sure what to expect. Little did we know we were in for a nice and tasty surprise. As soon as we entered, we were immediately drawn in by the comfy and cozy atmosphere, featuring wood paneling, large screen TVs, a lively full-service bar, and friendly faces. The menu was huge, with so many tasty options. There were 4 sauces on our table, including the KC barbecue (which was phenomenal), but the chipotle spicy barbecue was our fave. We learned you can place your order online and pay for it, then come and pick it up at your leisure. Simple, convenient, and fabulous food. We couldn’t have asked for more. And the icing on the cake was the reasonable prices for such delish dishes.
What we drank
As usual when we venture out, we started off with Martinis. But then we were surprised by the really good wine selection on the menu and ordered a Cabernet Sauvignon. The one we chose scored 90 points with Wine Spectator and we could definitely taste why. Mmm! Great wine and a fire-grilled feast? Talk about scoring a jackpot!
Fire Starters
Skillet Cornbread
A cornerstone of Southern cuisine, this skilled-baked cornbread with honey-pecan butter was a real treat. It’s just sweet enough that you can have it for dessert, that’s how good it is!
Wings
Smoked Wings
OMG. Talk about giant and juicy! These wings are slow smoked, to double the intense flavor, drizzled with an incredibly sweet, tangy rib glaze and seasoned with Memphis Dry Rub. With wings like these, we couldn’t wait to soar to the next course!
BBQ Platters and Ribs
Hand-Pulled Pork
This mound of premium pork really raises the bar! It’s succulent, not oily. We can enthusiastically say it’s probably the best we’ve had. This excellent platter is house smoked 9 hours, hand pulled and seasoned with salt and pepper, and served with garlic bread. The accompanying beans are sweet, tangy, and irresistible. We couldn’t get enough!
Baby Back Ribs
Smoked 4 hours and fire grilled to order, these babies fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. If you’re in the mood for ribs, these are amazing! They’re brushed with a sweet BBQ sauce and served with garlic bread. Can you say, “Yeah, Baby?”
Chicken
BBQ Chicken
This plump half chicken has full-on flavor. It’s marinated inside and out, basted in BBQ rib glaze, and slow roasted. We thought the accompanying cinnamon apples were a nice touch, a bit crunchy with creamy cinnamon sauce. Simply amazing!
Specials
The Divide & Devour Giant Ribeye Dinner
We were definitely up for the challenge with this ginormous dish that comfortably feeds 2-3 people. Imagine over 2 lbs. of tender, boldly seasoned, lightly smoked, and perfectly grilled bone-in USDA Choice Ribeye! This awesomeness was served with Montreal seasoning and creole butter. And don’t get us started on the crazy good coleslaw!
Dessert
Hot Bag O’Donuts
As pleasantly stuffed as we were, we couldn’t resist this decadent treat. Proof that donuts are great at any hour, this bag of fresh, fluffy, round, cinnamon-sugary donuts, with chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces, really hit our sweet spot. They were sensational and the perfect way to cap off an evening of great food and fantastic portions.
