Murals by international, national & local artists are transforming the streets of St. Petersburg into a curated, open-air museum. The work of legendary street artist Shepard Fairey has come to St. Pete.!
As part of a nationwide campaign called Power to the Patients, local legends, The Vitale Bros, were tapped to paint Obey's artwork here locally. Power to the Patients advocates for patients' rights in terms of health care costs, asserting that health care prices should be clear, consistent and understood prior to services being rendered.
Renowned artist and activist, Shepard Fairey, explains why real healthcare prices are needed now: “Patients deserve to know the prices of the procedures that they need ahead of time. They need to have the power to make good choices. The ability to be an informed consumer around some of the most unpleasant situations people encounter in their lives, as they have health problems, is extremely important. It’s enough stress to be in need of healthcare, we don’t need to add to that stress with hidden costs.”
Power to the Patients murals are popping up around the country and St. Pete is on the map! The Obey mural is located at the Morean Arts Center. The Morean Arts Center is a driving force within St. Petersburg's art scene and provides a place of creativity, innovation and exploration!
