Clyde Butcher's Photography Traveling Exhibition is Coming to St. Lucie County

St. Lucie Cultural Alliance is opening their 2021-2022 season with the legendary landscape photographer Clyde Butcher. The Clyde Butcher’s show, Living Waters and the Florida Landscape Exhibition - a gallery filled with 29 of Butcher’s large-format breathtaking photographs.

The Living Waters and the Florida Landscape is a traveling exhibition by the Aquatic Preserve Society. Butcher, a longtime, devoted supporter of environmental causes, donated the 29 photographs to the Aquatic Preserve Program in 2000. This well-anticipated stop of the moving gallery is made possible through a collaborative effort with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance, the Aquatic Preserve Society, the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves, and the Friends of Spoil Islands.

Butcher, who has an exceptional career in photography, won state and national awards, is a self-taught photographer with a degree in architecture, known for his remarkable black and white landscape photographs. He composes his work throughout the United States and helps the public experience scenes out of reach and untouched. Butcher has been called the next Ansel Adams by Popular Photography magazine, awarded as a humanitarian for acting for the betterment of his community, and recognized as a conservationist for bringing issues to the forefront of public consciousness through his art. 

This exhibition is a part of St. Lucie County's and Cultural Alliance's commitment to preserving and conserving the county's diverse and breathtaking natural wonders. St. Lucie has over 20,000 acres of nature preserves, 21 miles of pristine beaches, as well as the Indian River Lagoon – the nation’s most biologically diverse estuary.

Butcher’s exhibition is part of the MIDFLORIDA Event Center’s presentation of the Florida Humanities Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit. Both opening night ceremonies will be at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center, 9221 SE Event Center Pl., Port St. Lucie, FL 34952. 

The Smithsonian Water/Ways exhibition opening night is on October 30, 2021, from 5 to 7 PM. ​The exhibit dives into water–an essential component of life on our planet, environmentally, culturally, and historically. Opening night reception will take place on October 1, 2021, from 5:30 to 8 PM. Attendees will enjoy a gallery filled with 29 of Butcher’s large-format breathtaking photographs, live music, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar.
