Orchestra Miami’s 15th anniversary Concert Series

Orchestra Miami’s 15^th anniversary season continues with Beethoven on the Beach, Orchestra Miami’s annual FREE outdoor concert series!

With the completion of our Beethoven cycle at our recent New Year’s Eve performance of Beethoven’s 9^th symphony, it’s time to explore some of Beethoven’s lesser-known works. This year’s concert will feature Beethoven’s complete incidental music to Egmont, Goethe’s famous play about a tragic hero. This dramatic and enduring work will be performed in its entirety with English narration by Gordon Kalton Williams, and features soprano Robyn Marie Lamp. Also on the program is Schubert’s Symphony N. 4 in C Minor, D 417. Written when Schubert was only 19 years old, it is only one of two symphonies which Schubert wrote in the minor key. Called the “tragic” symphony by the composer, it takes much inspiration from Schubert’s idol, Beethoven, including modeling the opening theme from Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 N. 4.

Orchestra Miami has been proudly presenting its Beethoven on the Beach free outdoor concerts since 2011, and it is the longest-running series of free outdoor classical music concerts in South Florida. This tradition was born out of Orchestra Miami’s Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi’s passion for bringing music to everyone without limits in South Florida, and her love of being outdoors. “It’s the perfect marriage of two of the things I enjoy most, music and spending time outside in the gorgeous South Florida weather”, says Rinaldi. “It is my hope that Beethoven on the Beach will endure as a beloved tradition for many generations to come”.

Beethoven on the Beach: Reboot is available for two performances only! Friday, February 25^th at 8 PM at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 SW 57 Avenue, 33156 and Sunday, March 6^th, 7 PM at the North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, 33141. These are free concerts, with a $10 per person suggested free will donation- no one turned away! No tickets necessary, although advance reservation is strongly recommended. Comfortable theater seats are provided- please do not bring a lawn chair. No outside food or beverages permitted; food and beverage will be available for purchase at the venue. Both the Banyan Bowl and the Bandshell are outdoor venues; however, we strongly encourage our guests to use face coverings while inside the venues.

In addition to Beethoven on the Beach, Orchestra Miami’s 15^th anniversary season will continue with several not-to-be-missed events. Discover Miami Through Music: Airborne continues Orchestra Miami’s tradition of presenting appropriately-themed concerts in Miami’s historic and landmarked spaces. Airborne celebrates Miami’s storied aviation history as well as the 95^th anniversary of the founding of Pan American World Airways. Two rarely performed American masterpieces will be presented at Shake-A-Leg Miami, the only surviving original Coast Guard seaplane hangar, on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 8:00 PM. This will be a rare opportunity to hear a live performance of two incredible works about flight: Kurt Weill’s “Flight of Lindbergh” and Marc Blitzstein’s “Airborne Symphony”. These two monumental works will be conducted by Elaine Rinaldi, staged by Michael Yawney and feature the Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Miami under the direction of Anthony Cabrera, the Concert Chorale of Barry University under the direction of Dr. Giselle Elgarresta Rios and will feature tenor Gregory Schmidt as Lindbergh.

In addition to its public performances, Orchestra Miami is proud of its track record of bringing its many high-quality music education programs to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools for free. As of now, Orchestra Miami has introduced over 30,000 students to classical music for free through its in-school programs, in-school tours, Cultural Passport performances and the Carnegie Hall Link Up program. This year’s education project, “The Orchestra Rocks”, is a continuation of Orchestra Miami’s collaboration with the Carnegie Hall Link Up program. On May 23^rd, Orchestra Miami will bring 4,000 students to Miami-Dade County Auditorium, where they will perform with the orchestra from their seats on repertoire that they have been working on all year in the classroom with their teachers. This unique hands-on program has been shaping the way our students see the world and giving them a sense of accomplishment and pride in their ability to perform.

An Evening with Wendy Pedersen and a grand quinceñera party! Miami’s first lady of jazz joins the orchestra for an unforgettable season finale at Miami’s iconic Scottish Rite Temple. Guests will be treated to an evening of great music and an after-party celebrating Orchestra Miami’s 15^th anniversary!
