Described by The New York Times as a “sensitive pianist” and praised by La Presse for communicating emotion with an artistry “reminiscent of Wilhelm Kempff,” Algerian-Canadian pianist Mehdi Ghazi brings a program of color and fire to the Discovery Series.

The artist

Born in Algeria to a non-musical family, Ghazi moved alone to Canada at seventeen to study at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. A laureate of the 2020 Campillos International Piano Competition and a Hilton Head medalist, he was named by CBC one of Canada's “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30,” has performed at UNESCO's Great Hall in Paris and with conductors including Daniel Barenboim, and teaches at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and the Université de Montréal.

The Discovery Series, the festival's crown jewel, presents rising international pianists in the intimate setting of The Wolfsonian–FIU on Miami Beach's Washington Avenue.

About the Miami International Piano Festival

Founded in 1997 by Giselle Brodsky, the Miami International Piano Festival has built its reputation on discovering pianists of extraordinary individuality, through its concerts, its Academy, educational programs in the United States and Italy, recordings and masterclasses.
