International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 27th, marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945 and honors the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, along with millions of others persecuted by the Nazis. Established by the United Nations in 2005, the day serves to commemorate the victims, educate about the Holocaust, and combat antisemitism and hatred in all forms. Through memorials, educational events, and discussions, it reinforces the importance of remembering the Holocaust’s lessons and promoting human rights to prevent future atrocities.
