Named the “Tragic” Symphony, Mahler’s Sixth is a massive tour de force for the orchestra, featuring the infamous hammer blows in the finale—moments so powerful they are iconic in orchestral history. Mahler believed that the symphony captured the struggle between hope and destiny, creating a work that is deeply human.
