Wine, cheese, and a little soul. The right jazz bar makes a glass of wine feel like an occasion and a cheese board feel like a perfectly sensible dinner. Add low lighting and live music, and your group chat may have to survive without you for a couple of hours. Sophisticated, a little sexy, and all the better when you have nowhere to rush off to. Miami knows how to make a night of it.
These spots keep live jazz on the calendar throughout the week, with nightly performances at some and recurring jazz nights at others. There are a few concert experiences worth planning ahead for, too.
Jazz Clubs and Experiences
Lagniappe House
Mismatched chairs and strings of lights give Lagniappe’s courtyard the appeal of a backyard gathering that has outgrown the backyard. It is easy to make an evening of a bottle of wine and something from the cheese counter. For the musicians, though, head inside: the band generally plays in the smaller room, and a courtyard table puts you farther from the performance.
The grill serves steak, fish and vegetables if your cheese-board dinner needs reinforcements. Music runs nightly from 9 p.m. to midnight, with jazz among the changing genres. Arrive ahead of the set if an indoor seat matters to you; there are no reservations.
Where: 3425 NE 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33137 · When: Live music nightly, 9 p.m. to midnight; genre varies · Seating: No reservations · Music calendar.
The Corner
A 10 p.m. jazz start gives you an excellent excuse to order another drink. The Corner’s Downtown Jazz bookings bring musicians into a Park West cocktail bar whose opening hours stretch well beyond the last sensible bedtime. Come for the set and leave the rest of the evening pleasantly undecided.
Jazz nights here have typically landed on Tuesdays, running from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. with free entry and a 21+ door. That gives you the shape of the night; check the events page for the next jazz date before making the trip.
Where: 1035 N. Miami Ave., #101, Miami, FL 33136 · When: Selected Tuesdays, typically 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. · Cost: Typically free, 21+; confirm on the events page · Official events.
Churchill’s Pub
A jazz jam belongs among Churchill’s sticker-covered walls as comfortably as a punk band. This Little Haiti pub has been part of Miami’s live-music life since 1979, and its Miami Jazz Jam makes room for the people who bring their instruments along with the people who only bring themselves.
Guitarist Fernando Ulibarri hosts the main-room session, where instrumentalists and singers can join in. Listening with a drink is equally acceptable participation. Monday jams typically start at 9 p.m.; check for an announced jam date, since the pub also books other shows.
Where: 5501 NE 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33137 · When: Monday jazz-jam series; confirm the selected date · Cost: Typically free for 21+ and $5 for ages 18 to 20; check the announcement · Official announcements and venue.
The Betsy Piano Bar
Ocean Drive supplies the people-watching; The Betsy supplies the piano. Palms, rotating art and large street-facing windows make its Piano Bar an appealing place to linger over a cocktail. You can order dinner from LT Steak & Seafood, but regular jazz comes with no cover or minimum, so the evening can stay as simple as a drink and a performance.
The hotel advertises nine jazz performances a week. Weekend daytime sessions give you a reason to turn an afternoon at the beach into something with a little more occasion; many weekday performances begin at 6 p.m.
Where: 1440 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139 · Cost: No cover or minimum for regular jazz · When: Daily jazz plus weekend daytime sessions; individual hours vary · Piano Bar and artist calendar.
Ball & Chain
Jazz does not have to wait for low lighting. At Ball & Chain, the house trio plays Latin jazz from noon to 6 p.m., giving an afternoon on Calle Ocho a very good reason to run long. The pineapple-shaped outdoor bandshell is the landmark to remember, although performance locations depend on the booking.
The evening calendar includes early-week jazz and more salsa as the week goes on. Stay for dancing if the afternoon gets away from you. Regular programming has no cover; special ticketed events are exceptions, and the venue is 21+ after 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Where: 1513 SW 8th St., Miami, FL 33135 · Cost: No cover for regular programming · When: House trio noon to 6 p.m.; evening genres vary · Daily format and calendar.
Armstrong Jazz House
Armstrong puts the musicians in the front window. On a restaurant-lined stretch of Miracle Mile, a live band makes a persuasive case for stopping. Inside, jazz is the evening’s main commitment: three sets a night, seven nights a week, starting at 6, 8 and 10 p.m.
Reserve a dining table if French and Caribbean cooking belongs in your plan. Bar and outdoor seats are largely first come, first served, with some reservations available. There is a $5 cover per guest, and staying for consecutive shows takes an arrangement with management. Settle that first if you already know one set will feel too short.
Where: 271 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, FL 33134 · Cost: $5 cover per guest, plus food and drinks · When: Nightly sets at 6, 8 and 10 p.m. · Official site.
The Globe
The Globe gives you paintings, globes above a wood bar and black-and-white films to glance at between sets. A cocktail fits the setting rather well. Family-owned since 1997, this Coral Gables restaurant makes Saturday jazz feel like a reason to keep a standing evening free.
Dinner can stretch from steak frites to pear ravioli, both on its posted Saturday menu. For this outing, request seating for the jazz when reserving: the restaurant also has a terrace. Ask for the performance time along with your table.
Where: 377 Alhambra Circle, Coral Gables, FL 33134 · When: Saturday live jazz; confirm performance time when reserving · Cost: Confirm any music charge when reserving · Reservations: 305-445-3555.
Soya e Pomodoro
Thursday is a good night to let pasta become your entire Downtown plan. At Soya e Pomodoro, high ceilings, archways and local art give dinner a setting with plenty of character, and the restaurant advertises live music that evening. Jazz and Italian food make a strong case for taking your time.
This is a meal to settle into, so book for dinner and ask when the jazz begins. Published dinner hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; they do not establish the musicians’ exact set time.
Where: 120 NE 1st St., Miami, FL 33132 · When: Thursday live music; exact jazz set time to confirm · Cost: Dinner; ask about any music charge when booking · Restaurant and reservations.
The Fish House / BackRoom Live
The Fish House makes a seafood dinner in Miller Road Plaza a more interesting proposition than its address might suggest. Beyond the raw bar and fish dishes is BackRoom Live, a music space with nautical decor and Mardi Gras touches. An oyster po’boy and a jazz booking make an appealing pair here; both deserve a little room in the evening.
The calendar mixes jazz, blues and other styles. Reserve specifically for the BackRoom performance you want, and ask about that show’s cover and seating. The music room is the detail that makes this outing.
Where: 10000 SW 56th St., Suite 41, Miami, FL 33165 · When: Jazz dates in the mixed-genre calendar · Cost: Confirm the selected show’s cover · Official music calendar · Reservations: 305-595-8453.
More Jazz: Concerts and Community Programs
WDNA Jazz Gallery
At WDNA, the room belongs to a jazz radio station, so hearing the players is the outing. The intimate Coral Way gallery hosts Jazz Encounters and other live programs, including university ensembles heard beyond the room through the station’s broadcasts. Pick an announced gallery performance; the station also lists events elsewhere, so confirm the venue as well as the date.
Where: 2921 Coral Way, Miami, FL 33145 · WDNA gallery and live programs · Event calendar.
Jazz at MOCA
Bring a chair and make the museum plaza your listening room. Jazz at MOCA’s free concerts take place on the last Friday of the month in North Miami, with seating beginning at 7 p.m. and music at 8 p.m. It is a way to build an evening around a live performance without a cover charge. Outdoor shows remain weather-dependent.
Where: 770 NE 125th St., North Miami, FL 33161 · Cost: Free concert · When: Last Fridays, 8 p.m.; seating from 7 p.m. · MOCA jazz program.
Faena Theater Jazz Series
Faena gives that outfit you keep saving for an occasion somewhere to go. Red velvet, gold leaf and chandeliers lend the theater the grandeur of an opera house, but its 150 seats keep the scale intimate. The room brings the glamour; the artist gives you a reason to make a night of it.
The jazz series runs as a season from fall into early summer, with concerts on select evenings, typically at 8 p.m. Check the concert calendar and reserve for the artist you want to hear. Faena’s separately ticketed Obsession cabaret has its own schedule, so a theater booking on another night does not necessarily mean jazz.
Where: 3201 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33140 · Cost: Individual ticket prices vary · Faena concert calendar.
Jazz at Wolfson Presents
A college auditorium can be a very rewarding place to spend a lunch break. Miami Dade College’s free jazz series brings guest artists and student ensembles to its Downtown campus, with many performances at noon. The season also mixes in occasional evening concerts, so check the schedule for times.
There is no cover to build the outing around, just a performance to put on the calendar. Concerts take place in the Wolfson Campus Auditorium, Room 1261.
Where: 300 NE 2nd Ave., Building 1, Room 1261, Miami, FL 33132 · Cost: Free · College jazz schedule.

Good to Know
At venues that book several genres, choose the jazz performance first and build the evening around it. The Corner’s Tuesday bookings, Soya’s Thursday set time and The Fish House’s BackRoom program need a date-specific look at the calendar or a call to the venue. A restaurant reservation alone does not confirm a seat near the musicians.
For dated performances, browse CultureOwl’s Miami events calendar or see what’s on this weekend. For something else nearby, explore things to do in Miami. When booking, ask whether your table is in the room where the musicians perform.
