Chamber Music: Harpsichord Hero
Date & Time
Event Description
Mahan Esfahani has made it his life’s mission to rehabilitate the harpsichord, bringing a rock star quality to both the keyboard and the music. He makes his NWS debut in a program that spans from the Baroque era’s C.P.E. Bach to Iannis Xenakis’ futuristic treatment that amplifies the harpsichord and features flowerpots as percussion instruments. Written for Esfahani, Daniel Kidane’s Feuerstrurm is a musical evocation of the 1945 bombing of Dresden. Considered the Father of the String Quartet, Joseph Haydn meditates in D minor and Brass Fellows shine in a suite of choral works by Heinrich Schütz.
