About This Event
Join the Lynn Sinfonietta and our chamber music students for two 20th-century vocal masterpieces, sung by Virginia Mims
Join the Lynn Sinfonietta and our chamber music students for two 20th-century vocal masterpieces, Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and the final movement of Gustav Mahler's Fourth Symphony, sung by the rising young American soprano Virginia Mims.
A Palm Beach County native, Mims has been a familiar face at Sarasota Opera, where she has sung Musetta in La Bohème, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, and will sing Violetta in La Traviata this coming February and March. Other roles include Baby Doe in The Ballad of Baby Doe at Central City Opera, where critics called her voice “transcendent,” and Pamina in The Magic Flute for Opera on the James. A master's graduate of Indiana University, she is a district winner in the Metropolitan Opera's Laffont Competition and a fellowship finalist in the Chicago Luminarts Vocal Competition.
