Opening Reception - Ansel Adams: Masterworks & Purvis Young: Angels, Horses, and Boats
About This Event
Join us at our opening reception for two exhibitions - Ansel Adams: Masterworks & Purvis Young: Angels, Horses, and Boats
Ansel Adams: Masterworks brings the work of one of the most influential photographers of the twentieth century back to Orlando for the first time in more than twenty‐five years. Adams is renowned for his groundbreaking black‐and‐white landscapes, which helped shape American visual culture and the modern environmental movement, making this return a significant cultural milestone. Featuring selections from the rare “Museum Set,” chosen by Adams as the strongest representation of his life’s work, the exhibition offers access to iconic images foundational to American art and seldom shown together.
Running concurrently, Purvis Young: Angels, Horses, and Boats highlights works from the museum’s collection and promised gifts that have never been publicly shown. This public debut provides rare access to a major Florida artist’s work and positions Orlando as a meaningful site for renewed scholarship and dialogue around Young’s socially engaged work.
