Rhodnie Desir: BOW'T Trail
BOW’T Trail is Rhodnie Désir’s choreographic documentary work that traces the rhythms and dances of enslaved African peoples throughout six countries in the Americas. A Canadian with Haitian roots, Désir is a dancer and choreographer who embodies the hidden stories of her ancestors with language discovered during her travels. This full evening dance work is a culmination of a multi-year choreographic-documentary journey throughout the Americas where she drew from the jongo (Brazil), danmyé (Martinique), Vodun dance (Haiti), son jarocho (Mexico), blues (New Orleans), and gospel paired with Mi’kmaq rhythms (Canada) to immerse herself in and interpret the African cultures and rhythms brought to the Americas by enslaved Africans.
