MBUS Live Art Talk with Itzel Basualdo

TAGS: Lecture Virtual
Monday 10/26

Itzel Basualdo (b. 1995) lives and works in Miami, Florida. Itzel received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019, and a BFA from Florida International University in 2017. She primarily works at the intersection of video, photography, and text, to create interactive environments. Working through a dynamic understanding of her sense of place and belonging as a woman and Latinx artist, Basualdo’s work seeks to destabilize and dismantle hierarchies of race and gender through humor and defamiliarization. Her work has been exhibited at LOOP Barcelona, The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, La Cera 13, DORCAM, Void Projects, and has forthcoming exhibitions at Heaven Gallery (Chicago), among others. She is a recipient of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Graduate Curatorial Fellowship, and was most recently granted a South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship Award.
