MIAMI CITY BALLET Celebrates its 30th ANNIVERSARY SEASON

For the 30th Anniversary Season, Miami City Ballet Artistic Director, Lourdes Lopez, has assembled one of the company’s most ambitious performance schedules yet, with masterworks from the company’s George Balanchine foundation side-by-side with such leading modern choreographic voices as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor, Justin Peck and Liam Scarlett. Program One (October 23 – November 15) includes George Balanchine’s Swan Lake; the return of audience favorite Viscera; and Fancy Free, Jerome Robbins’ and Leonard Bernstein’s breakthrough World War II ballet.
George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker (December 11 – 29) The perennial classic returns and tells the tale of Marie and her Nutcracker Prince, as they journey through a winter wonderland in an epic battle between heroic toy soldiers and mischievous mice! Program Two (January 8 – 31) features Balanchine’s La Source; Barber Violin Concerto; and In The Upper Room, which celebrates Twyla Tharp’s 50th anniversary as a choreographer by reprising her signature work.
Program Three (February 12 – 28) further broadens the horizons of Miami City Ballet’s dancers with Justin Peck’s breakout ballet, Year of the Rabbit; Paul Taylor’s masterpiece, Sunset; and Bourrée Fantasque, acclaimed as one of Balanchine’s most charming works. A Midsummer Night’s Dream (March 18 – April 10) brings the landmark 30th Anniversary Season to a crescendo with an unprecedented new production of Balanchine’s magical full-evening ballet.
