Foodie Diaries - Hardy Park Bistro

AMBIANCE

We could tell right from the start that we had discovered a neighborhood treasure when we first arrived at Hardy Park Bistro. It’s located very close to Broward Center for the Performing Arts, making it an ideal pre-theater dining venue. The small, intimate setting was minimally decorated, featuring white tablecloths and white walls, accented by mirrors and artwork. The vibe was definitely casual, with a dash of sophistication that immediately drew us in. There’s a “Specials” board each night that highlights unique dishes from the menu, which changes weekly, keeping diners’ choices varied and interesting. That’s another one of the things we loved about this hidden gem: it’s small and chef-owned, which allows for more creativity and flexibility in the menu selections, showcasing what’s in season, and featuring the freshest ingredients. Owner Chef Philip Darmon began his cooking career in Sydney, Australia, and has displayed his talents in 5 Star hotels, gastro pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes, kosher catering, and more. With over 20 years of experience, Chef Philip, alongside his wife, opened Hardy Park Bistro in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and we looked forward to experiencing his culinary flair first hand!

What we drank

We decided on a Chalk Hill Chardonnay and a Craft Beer from one of their nice selections to whet our whistles and prepare for the culinary adventure we were about to embark on.

Starters

Beef Tartar
This dish was the definition of melt in your mouth realness. The tartar was perfectly seasoned and beautifully paired with mushrooms and topped with truffle oil, for a winning combination of flavor and texture. Needless to say, we didn’t have a beef with this one, au contraire!

Warm Brussel Sprout Salad with Bacon, Pear, Parmesan
Oh my! Where do we begin? This salad was delish, featuring crunchy pear, thin sliced parmesan, warm, succulent brussel sprouts, all topped with decadent bacon and accented with walnuts. The perfect appetizer that could be eaten as a meal itself.

Entrees

Grilled Swordfish with Tapenade, Grilled Italian Vegetables
This platter was truly a delight for the eyes, as well as the palate. Aside from the awesome presentation, it was very flavorful, showcasing the freshness of the fish and grilled veggies.

Braised NZ Lamb Shank with Parsnip Puree & an Olive, Tomato & Parsley Salad
The meat literally fell off the bone, that’s how moist and tender this entrée is. It’s served with a parsnip puree, olives, and parley salad, which was so tasty we wanted seconds, but had to save room to try the next delight.

Dessert

Chocolate Mousse
Despite being deliciously full, we could not resist this crazy rich, chocolaty, pudding-like mousse, with the lightest, freshest cream on top. Truly a slice of heaven with each bite!
