Event Description

Red. A color with paradoxical symbolism, representing both good and evil — from love, wealth and status to danger and sin.

Chinese potters of the Ming Dynasty created red-glazed porcelains, and European ceramic artists strove to emulate the rare, lustrous copper glazes — often called oxblood or Sang de Boeuf — in the early 1900s.

Royal Doulton, Ruskin and Moorcroft experimented with high-temperature firings in oxygen-starved kilns, a dramatic process known as flambé (French for “flames”).

Get fired up and ignite your journey by visiting the Red-Fired Arts Are Hot! exhibition at the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts (WMODA).
