Event Description

Be of good cheer at WMODA as you explore the Roaring Twenties — a time when “Cheers” became a popular drinking toast, punctuated by the clinking of glasses.

Storage and serving containers for wine, beer and spirits have been made of ceramics and glass for centuries! The pottery industry also produced teapots, cups, and saucers for serving tea, a beverage promoted as healthy since the 1700s and often referred to as “the cup that cheers but not inebriates.”

It became fashionable during the Victorian era to observe the English ritual of afternoon tea, inspired by the Duchess of Bedford, who experienced a sinking feeling between meals.

Here’s a toast to the Cheers exhibition — showcased exclusively at the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts. Bottoms up!
