Saturday 7/20Join Jorge Zaldivar and learn about Florida's tropical fruits and their history. Jorge will also make connections to fruits & vegetables used by pioneer families as both food and agricultural crops in Miami's early days. Come learn about papaya, guava, mango, Key limes, coconuts, mamey, canistel, lychees, longans & more delicious rare fruits at this unique program. After the talk join Jorge for a hands on workshop and mango tasting. Jorge is a Board Member of the Rare Fruit Council International, (RFCI), Miami & owns Guavonia Guava Grove in Homestead's bucolic Redland. He is a tropical fruit enthusiast & historian that focuses on Miami & Floridiana. He is currently writing a book dealing with botany & recipes featuring a local plantsman by the name of Alex D. Hawkes, this will be Hawkes' first researched biography offered in print.
