Cuban artist Lisyanet Rodriguez will teach abstract drawing to create expressive self-portraits with charcoal, pencil, and acrylic. Students will learn how to combine traditional observational drawing techniques with the artist’s style of manipulation. Rodriguez will teach students how to create hybrid self-portraits by combining expressive elements of emotion and memory with exaggerated bodily characteristics to achieve a surreal style. Guests in this workshop will tell a story through their abstract self-portrait drawings.
Lisyanet Rodriguez was born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, and currently resides in the United States. She earned her B.F.A. at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana, Cuba, and previously attended the Academy of Fine Arts, in Trinidad, Cuba. She has accepted artist residencies domestically and abroad, ranging from the Isolo17 Gallery in Verona, Italy in 2019 to the Djerassi Program in Woodside California, US.
