Beethoven in the 21st Century with Orlando Garcia, AIRFriday 6/25
Visiting Artist in Residence Orlando Garcia discusses the perception of Beethoven’s work during and after his life and imagines what his work would be like if he were living in the 21st century. The presentation include excerpts of Beethoven’s compositions, reviews of his music, and culminates with the presentation of a short work for orchestra by composer Orlando Jacinto Garcia. The work is a re-imagining of what Beethoven’s work would be like today especially if written during his impending deafness. The 6-minute composition was written for and premiered by the Florida Orchestra in Tampa during January of 2020 as part of their season celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birth year.
