Picks of the Week: Art, Music and More...

What are your plans this weekend? We've lined up our top picks for you. From musical theatre to film festivals, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

POMPANO BEACH ARTS: KARINA IGLESIAS AND THE NU THANG

Through July 3rd

Experience a post-modern reimagining of current and classic American, Afro-Caribbean, and Brazilian pop music! Known as the sultry soul and R&B singer from NBC’s hit show “The Voice”, Karina Iglesias’ style combines rhythm & blues, boleros, gospel and hip-hop. She delivers her performances with the intimacy of a deep soul crooner and the conviction and drive of a dauntless female singer/songwriter. More event details here.

AREA STAGE COMPANY: ANNIE THE MUSICAL

Through July 4th

It’s Annie like you’ve never seen it before! This new take on the classic story will be housed within an immersive theatrical experience that will begin as soon as the audience enters the theatre through a speakeasy-looking door, reminiscent of Annie’s 1933 New York setting. Once inside, audience members will find themselves in The Soap Box, an abandoned, industrial Brooklyn warehouse turned speakeasy, complete with cabaret table seating, a bar, and a live jazz quartet. This production is fully in the round, in a Brechtian, theatre-of-the-poor style with only 8 actors playing all roles; a contrast to the original 25-person Broadway cast. More event details here.

WIENER MUSEUM OF DECORATIVE ARTS: CONSTELLATIONS HOT GLASS ART BY ROB STERN

Through July 31st

Visitors are star-struck with the new installation of Windstars by Rob Stern at WMODA. Rob is known for his star sculptures which are dedicated to his father, a consummate stargazer fascinated by cosmic phenomena. The Windstars are constructed with 13 individual parts, which Rob blows with infinite color and cane patterning variations. More event details here.
