Foodie Diaries - Bistro Cassis

AMBIANCE

Looking for a great French sidewalk café feel in sunny South Florida? Look no further. Bistro Cassis captures the authentic French atmosphere and more. Nestled in Midtown Miami, Bistro Cassis is a slice of European ambience featuring a 2,000 square-foot café, which seats a combined 74 guests indoors and out, and includes a welcoming bar, as well as patio seating shaded by market umbrellas. When we first entered, it was like being transported from South Florida to the South of France in a casual and comfortable setting. Bistro Cassis’ authentic ambiance really set the mood, taking its inspiration from classic French cafes with bistro chairs and tables, white subway tile walls, tile floors, decorative French posters and framed photographs of the City of Lights. The beautiful old-fashioned wooden bar, salvaged from a 1920’s era hotel, serves as the perfect platform for Bistro Cassis’ signature cocktails, highlighting French spirits in avant-garde concoctions. We couldn’t wait to begin this culinary adventure!

THINGS WE TRIED

The menu, created in New York and beloved by loyal patrons there, is interpreted in Miami by chef de cuisine Oscar Garcia. Chock-full of classic dishes like escargot and frog legs, as well as more modern interpretations, the dining selections profoundly confirmed to us why French cuisine is revered worldwide.

DRINKS

Sanguine
We decided to start the evening with this French style sangria with Pavan and fresh fruit. Truly delectable and a great way to relax and kick off the evening.

Hors d’oeuvres

Onion Soup Gratinée
Oozing with gooey Swiss cheese, this decadent, rich broth was the perfect gateway to whet our appetites and pave the way for the culinary pleasures to come.

Poulpe Grillé
This tasty platter combines grilled octopus, cherry tomatoes, and potatoes. It’s very tender, with just the right dash of sweetness to tickle those taste buds. C’est magnifique!

Thon Tartare
OMG! Can you say, light, extremely fresh, and wonderful flavor? This fabulous blend of diced tuna, ginger, lemongrass, and soy was a real treat. And the accompanying salad? Particularly yummy and to die for.

Entrees

Poulet Alsacienne
You can’t go wrong with roasted chicken breast, smoked bacon, kale, homemade spaetzle, and shallot cream sauce. The chicken’s skin is so crispy, moist, and juicy, you’ll be tempted to lick your fingers.

Carre D’agneau Aux Champignons
What a dish! Imagine pistachio crusted rack of lamb, wild mushroom risotto, asparagus, and veal demi glace. It’s cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The risotto is delish and very creamy.

Desserts

Crepes Suzette
Served flambé in a dramatic tableside presentation, this classic sinful concoction of French pancakes, Grand Marnier sauce, and vanilla bean ice cream was the perfect complement for a fabulous meal.

Fondant Au Chocolat
Despite eating so much delicious food, we couldn’t resist this decadent blend of warm chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. Perfect way to end a fantastic culinary experience!
