FOODIE DIARIES - Beaker & Gray
About Beaker Gray
Nestled in the heart of Miami’s trendy Wynwood Arts District, Beaker & Gray was the perfect spot to grab a bite and some drinks to complement our evening of artistic exploration. We adored the cool, modern décor. It was very hip, with high, exposed wood beam ceilings, capping the large, open dining area. The aged Chicago brick walls, two grand bronze chandeliers, wood tables and chairs added to the cozy, rustic vibe, making us feel right at home. An added plus? The intimate lounge and inviting bar, equipped with built-in cell phone charging stations. It was such a beautiful night that we decided to dine on the outside patio, affording us views of the fab street art the area is known for. Right from the get-go, we were definitely impressed with our server, who not only was extremely courteous and personable, but demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the menu, guiding our choices with her awesome suggestions. We have to admit, after all the accolades we’d heard about the dynamic duo, Chef/Owner Brian Nasajon and Bar Manager/Owner Ben Potts, we were anxious to sample what they had to offer. Nasajon is a veteran of Lure Fishbar in Manhattan, Wish in Miami Beach, and former executive chef at Sushisamba, while Potts has been selected twice as one of the Top 10 Bartenders in Miami. Our anticipation was growing, just like our appetites!
What a perfect way to start our Beaker & Gray Experience! This combo of stringy, creamy Oaxaca cheese, wax pepper, oregano and tomatillo was perfectly flavored to provide ultimate yummy goodness. If this was a taste of what was to come, we were definitely in!
It didn’t take long for us to crown a fave! Served with cilantro, watermelon, and palmito, the octopus was cooked to perfection, with a unique blend of flavors that tickled our taste buds to the max.
Even if you aren’t a cauliflower fan, this selection will make a believer out of you. With bacon, queso fresco, and yuzu, what’s not to love? We couldn’t think of a thing, and relished every bite.
OMG! Imagine rich, pumpkin dumplings, with braised pork ribs, immersed in manchego and red shiso. Say it with me: “Delish!”
Now we get to the “melt in your mouth” portion of our experience. Served with white asparagus, black garlic, and pea tendril, the scallop was to die for and we couldn’t get enough.
Not So Smalls
This dish was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. The succulent jerk chicken was bathed in the unusual combo of mustard seed, banana, and watercress. The result was a very unique and satisfying blend of tastes that really hit our palates just right.
Build Your Own Sundae
After eating ourselves silly, we of course had to indulge in the complete experience and top things off with a dessert! What could be better than an old-fashioned sundae? It was fun choosing from the array of toppings (tip: try the bourbon caramel!), and the result was pure bliss.
Our Final Mouthful
Even though we had to be rolled out to our car when we were done with our Beaker & Gray adventure, that’s a small price to pay for such a satisfying experience. The presentation of all the food was over the top gorgeous, with outstanding flavor to match.
